Getting Started

Web development is basically a series of related tasks that will solve different problems (Harris, 2014).
Training for Web design will involve breaking down the overall project of developing a website into smaller,
more easily managed tasks so as to enable understanding of the different concepts required to build each
piece of a website.
For this session, these pieces include creating the HTML base, adding CSS styling for a common look and feel
for all web pages and adding navigation links to allow maneuvering within the web page and also, between other
linked web pages (Shelley & Campbell, 2012).

About Web Design

A fairly common problem for many Web designers is planning a website with the largest possible audience in
mind and not losing the desired effect the site will have on each visitor, regardless of their browser, monitor’s
resolution or device being used (Eccher, 2011).
A good approach for this challenge is to use a responsive design approach. Responsive web design is a method
that presents web content in the most accessible manner for any screen type accessing the site. So, instead
of launching the testbed on a desktop pc with a set monitor resolution and then scaling the size down for smaller
device screens such as a tablet or phone, the design should begin on the smallest screen first and then gradually
enhance the scheme and content for larger and larger devices. (Frain, 2012).
Testing for other devices is beyond the scope of this session, but testing tools can be obtained from several
sites including:
